The Comfort Zone Is a Self-Inflicted Prison

Growth requires resistance. Purpose requires dissatisfaction. We give more when it hurts, because we get more when it's over.

The longer we stay inside our darkness, the more familiar it becomes to us, making it all the less likely we'll ever escape it. Because that which is familiar ultimately churns into that which is comfortable, and over time, a comfort zone.

This comfort zone is the most toxic of all things. It's a self-inflicted prison, a downward spiral, a death dance in which complacency will always take priority over growth.

Growth requires resistance. Purpose requires dissatisfaction. We give more when it hurts, because we get more when it's over.

And when we don't allow ourselves to grow, when we don't make growth a priority, we begin down a path in which we slowly wither, the longer we walk it. And if that doesn't scare you into seeking out the light, if that doesn't motivate you to act, maybe nothing will.

The hardest thing in life is to believe we could do something we've never done; to believe we could be someone or something we've never been. But you have to know that everything good in life requires we take a leap of faith. You have to believe, without a doubt, that you deserve more, that you can become more, no matter your circumstances.

Growth requires resistance. Purpose requires dissatisfaction. And if you can just take on that pain when growth opportunities present themselves, if you can find some way to keep moving forward and leave behind your comfort zone when life comes to test you, believe me when I tell you, you can make it.

We give more when it hurts, because we get more when it's over. And the light shines, even in darkness. And the darkness cannot overcome it.
